Summary: The plant of ‘Spun Silk' has many flowers while that of ‘La Spider' has a medium number. The leaf of ‘Spun Silk' has a medium degree of glossiness while that of ‘La Spider' has absent or weak glossiness. The flower head of ‘Spun Silk' has a medium to tall heigh while that of ‘La Spider' has a short to medium height. The flower head of ‘Spun Silk' is wider than that of ‘La Spider'. The ray floret of ‘Spun Silk' is longer than that of ‘La Spider'. The disc of ‘Spun Silk' has a small diameter in relation to its flower head while that of ‘La Spider' has a medium diameter in relation to its flower head.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Spun Silk' originated from a hybridization made in July 2015 at Walters Gardens in Zeeland, Michigan, USA. The cross was between two proprietary varieties. The initial selection was made in the summer of 2016, based on criteria for flower type, plant habit, plant branching, and disease resistance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘Spun Silk' was conducted during the summer of 2025 in Oxford Station, Ontario. Plants of each variety were grown in 16 cm pots in a polyhouse. Plants of each variety were grown outdoors in 16 cm pots under a galvanized steel structure covered with black mesh shade fabric. Plants were spaced approximately 45 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken on 15 plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
