Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEDG11142' originated from a hybrid cross conducted in July 2006 by the breeder, Martin Glawe, in Stuttgart, Germany. The cross involved 'DSS ×allwoodii' as the female parent and 'DCP 06030', a proprietary variety, as the male parent. The seedlings were selected in June 2007 based on flower colour, very early flowering and branching characteristics. The selected seedlings were evaluated in greenhouse trials from January to May 2008 through to 2012. A single seedling was selected for commercialization and named 'KLEDG11142' in April 2011.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLEDG11142' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 12 cm pots on April 28, 2014. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on June 10, 2014. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
