Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'KLEDG10117' (Everlast Lavender + Eye)

Summary: The plants of 'KLEDG13159' are taller than the plants of 'KLEDG10117'. The internode of 'KLEDG13159' is longer than the internode of 'KLEDG10117'. 'KLEDG13159' has a longer leaf than 'KLEDG10117'. The corolla of 'KLEG13159' is shorter than the corolla of 'KLEG10117'. The petal of 'KLEDG13159' has a medium number of shallow crenate incisions of the margin whereas 'KLEDG10117' has many deep denticulate incisions of the margin. When fully opened, the petal of 'KLEDG13159' has a main colour of purple with white tones and a secondary colour of dark purple red whereas 'KLEDG10117' has a main colour of light blue pink and a secondary colour of dark purple red.

FLOWER: double type, few petals
COROLLA: concave upper part in lateral view, flat lower part in lateral view
PETAL: predominantly type 4, medium undulation, when newly open inner side is mainly purple (RHS N74A) with white (RHS 155B) tones and secondary colour is dark purple red (RHS 60A), when fully open inner side is mainly purple (RHS N74B) with white (RHS 155B) tones and secondary colour is dark purple red (RHS 60B), when aged inner side is mainly blue pink (RHS N74C-D) with white (RHS 155B) tones and secondary colour is purple to purple red (RHS 60C-D), no stripes or speckles, no area of flush, medium sized macule
PETAL MARGIN: medium width, medium amount of shallow crenate incisions

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEDG13159' was bred and developed by the breeder Martin Glawe in Stuttgart, Germany. 'KLEDG13159' originated from a hybrid cross conducted in July 2009, between the female parent 'DSS 07-031' and the male parent 'DSS 07-026'. Resulting seedlings were selected in June 2010 based on criteria for good branching , flowering time, and flower colour. Selected seedlings were further evaluated in greenhouse trials between October 2010 and April 2011 in Stuttgart , Germany and in Latina, Italy from September 2010 to March 2011. A single plant was selected for commercialization and named 'KLEDG13159' in May 2011.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'KLEDG13159' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2016 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 15, 2016. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 1, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
