Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunjodi 045' was bred and developed by Penhow Nurseries in Carrow Hill, St. Brides Netherwent, Monmouthshire, United Kingdom. 'Sunjodi 045' originated from a controlled cross, conducted on June 7, 2008, between the proprietary Diascia hybrid variety designated 'D484', as the female parent, and the proprietary Diascia hybrid variety designated 'D0912', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, a single plant was selected on August 20, 2008. The selection was based on strong and abundant stems, large flower size and flower colour. 'Sunjodi 045' was first propagated by vegetative cuttings on May 21, 2009.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Sunjodi 045' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2016 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15.0 cm pots on June 9, 2016. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 7, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
