Variety used for comparison: 'Francien'

Summary: The new growth on the shrub of 'Lankveld03' is close to white, but a very light green colour, whereas the new growth of 'Francien' is dark green with white along the margin.

Description:

SHRUB: erect growth habit
STEM: green brown at base, lignified at base, dark green at distal end, 60 to 70 degree angle between secondary and main branches

PETIOLE: weakly channeled shape, dark green
LEAF: decussate position
LEAF BLADE: elliptic to ovate, no variegation, no anthocyanin colouration, crenulate margin, obtuse apex
LEAF BLADE (NEWLY OPENED): white (closest to RHS 157D, but a very light green)
LEAF BLADE (MATURE): dark green (RHS 139A) on upper side of entire leaf surface

Origin & Breeding History: 'Lankveld03' is a naturally occuring branch mutation of the parent variety 'Francien', discovered by the breeder growing in a container in the nursery in the summer of 2004 in Elsendorp, the Netherlands. 'Lankveld03' was selected for its newly opened leaves being white becoming dark green with age. 'Lankveld03' was first reproduced by softwood stem cuttings in the summer of 2006.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Lankveld03' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2012/0595, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Naktuinbouw Variety Center in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2013 and 2014. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
