Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC 1142' (experimental designation 1142-16) originated from a cross conducted at the Crop Development Centre of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The initial crosses between 405-6 and 'Navi' as well as between 'Navi and 469-17 were conducted in the winter of 2010. In the summer of 2010, the two resulting progeny lines were crossed. Selections were made in the F1 to F4 generations and breeder seed was established from the F9 generation. Selection criteria was based on vicine and convicine content, yield, seed weight, days to flowering, days to maturity, lodging resistance, plant height and disease resistance.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'CDC 1142' were conducted in 2019 and 2021 at the Sutherland field site of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The trials were arranged in a RCB design consisting of 3 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 43 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 60 measurements of each variety per year except for seed weight which was based on 12 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on LSD values.
