Origin & Breeding History: 'Navi' (experimental designation AO1155) originated from a cross conducted between the varieties 'Victoria', as the female parent, and 'Melodie', as the male parent, in Dijon, France in 2001. Selections were made in the F3 generation and breeder seed established in 2018 after 3 years of bulk multiplication. Selection criteria was based on yield, disease resistance, lodging resistance, and visual seed quality.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'Navi' were conducted in 2020 at the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers field site and in 2021 at a second location, 15 kilometres away, at the Sutherland field site of the University of Saskatchewan, both in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The trials were arranged in a RCB design consisting of 3 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 43 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 60 measurements of each variety per year except for seed weight which was based on 12 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on LSD values.
