Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'DL Rico', 'CDC 1142', 'Navi' and 'CDC 1239'
Summary: The plants of 'CDC 1310' flower later than the plants of 'DL Rico'. The leaflet of 'CDC 1310' is smaller than the leaflet of 'DL Rico'. The plants of 'CDC 1310' are taller than the plants of 'CDC 1239'. At the beginning of ripening, the pod of 'CDC 1310' has a semi-erect attitude while the pod of 'DL Rico' has an erect attitude. Excluding the beak, the pods of 'CDC 1310' are shorter than the pods of 'DL Rico' and 'CDC 1142'. The pods of 'CDC 1310' are narrower than those of 'DL Rico'.The plants of 'CDC 1310' mature earlier than the plants of 'Navi'. The one hundred dry seed weight of 'CDC 1310' is less than the one hundred dry seed weight of the reference varieties.
Description:

FOLIAGE: medium green, maximum width of leaflet positioned at middle
FLOWER: melanin spot absent on wing, no anthocyanin colouration on standard
POD: semi-erect attitude, brown black colour at maturity
SEED: irregular shape in median longitudinal section, grey beige colour of testa immediately after harvest, black pigmentation of hilum absent
Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC 1310' (experimental designation 1310-5) originated from a three-way cross conducted at the Crop Development Centre of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The initial cross between 219-18 and FB34-2 was conducted in 2012 with a subsequent cross to 'Fevita' conducted in 2013. A single plant selection was made at the F2 generation. Further selections made at the F3 generation resulted in one line designated as 1310-5. Selection criteria was based on vicine and convicine content, yield, seed weight, days to flower, days to maturity, lodging, plant height and disease resistance. Breeder seed was established in 2020 at the F9 generation using 9 sublines.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'CDC 1310' were conducted in 2021 and 2022 at the Sutherland field site of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The trials were arranged in a RCB design consisting of 3 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 43 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 60 measurements of each variety per year except for seed weight which was based on 12 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on LSD values.
