Origin & Breeding History: 'Sanicomf' originated from a cross between the female parent 'Fuchsia hybrida 1' and the male parent called 'FR20', native to Brazil, in the spring of 1992. From this crossing, 119 seedlings were selected for heat resistance and growth habit. From these selections, 19 seedlings were further selected for heat resistance trials in an outdoor garden in 1993 and as potted flowering plants in open-air field trials starting in the spring of 1994. 'Sanicomf' was selected from these trials in the autumn of 1994. The breeding and selection trials were conducted at the Research Center of Suntory Ltd., Osaka, Japan and the Plant Research Center of Nishinomiya-shi, Hyogo, Japan.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Sanicomf' were conducted in an outside location under a shading net at Norseco Inc., Boisbriand, Quebec during the summer of 2001. The plants of 'Sanicomf' were planted in black, 4 litre pots (three plants per pot) spaced approximately 30 cm apart. The plants of 'Sanihanf', 'Dark Eyes' and 'Pink Campanella' were grown in ten inch hanging baskets (three plants per pot).
