Summary: The plants of 'PAST0517E' have an upright-bushy growth habit with a high degree of branching while the plants of 'Fireworks' have an irregular to spreading growth habit and a medium degree of branching. The plants of 'PAST0517E' are shorter than those of 'Fireworks'. The leaf blade of 'PAST0517E' is smaller than that of 'Fireworks'. The upper and lower sides of the leaf blade are dark green for 'PAST0517E', while both sides are medium green for 'Fireworks'. The peduncle of 'PAST0517E' is shorter than that of 'Fireworks'. The inflorescence of 'PAST0517E' is smaller than that of 'Fireworks'. The bractlet of 'PAST0517E' is shorter than that of 'Fireworks'.

PLANT: upright bushy growth habit, high degree of branching
STEM: medium green, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration at nodes only, very weak glaucosity, medium to dense pubescence, ribbed

LEAF: opposite arrangement, simple type
LEAF BLADE: elliptic shape, aristate apex, cuneate base, entire margin, no variegation, petiole present, dark green with medium density of pubescence on upper and lower side

FLOWERING: begins mid-season, almost continuous
PEDUNCLE: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, dense pubescence
INFLORESCENCE: round, dense flowers
BRACTEOLE: open arrangement, many, tubular shape, cleft apex, absent or very weak recurvature of tip
BRACTEOLE (OUTER SIDE): blue pink (RHS N74C)

Origin & Breeding History: 'PAST0517E' originated from an open pollinated cross between a group of Gomphrena puchella proprietary selections occurring in September 2013, in Santa Paula California. Resulting seed from the cross was field planted and 'PAST0517E' was selected, as a single plant, in July 2014 based on duration of flowering and growth habit.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'PAST0517E' was conducted in a polyhouse, during the spring and summer of 2019, at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm containers on June 12, 2019. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, each of the candidate and reference variety, on July 15, 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
