Origin & Breeding History: 'Sheegene 21' originated from a cross made in 1999 in California, USA, between the variety 'Red Globe', as the female parent, and the variety 'Princess', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'Sheegene 21' was selected in 2000 for its green and seedless berries, early berry maturity, strong woody stems and branches, and adaptability to commercial handling. In 2000, 'Sheegene 21' was propagated asexually by Timothy Sheehan from a block of Vitis vinifera plants located near Fowler, California, USA, and planted as rooted cuttings in May 2007, in a field located north west of Delano, California.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Sheegene 21' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20100342, purchased from the Oficina Española de Variedades Vegetales, Ministerio de Agricultura y Pesca, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente, in Madrid, Spain. The trial was conducted by the Centro de Ensayos de Evaluación de Variedades del Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Tecnologia Agraria y Alimentaria, in Murcia, Spain, from 2011 to 2014.
