YOUNG SHOOT TIP: wide open tip, weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of prostrate hairs, dense prostrate hairs, absent or very sparse erect hairs
WOODY SHOOT: reddish brown
SHOOT: dorsal side of internodes is red, ventral side of internodes is green and red, dorsal side of nodes is green and red, ventral side of nodes is red, absent or very sparse erect hairs on internodes, erect attitude (before tying)
TENDRILS: medium length
TIME OF BEGINNING OF BUD BURST: mid-season
YOUNG LEAF: green upper side, dense prostrate hairs between main veins on lower side, absent or very sparse erect hairs on main veins on lower side
MATURE LEAF: medium sized, circular, medium blistering of upper side, three lobes, shallow depth of upper lateral sinuses, arrangement of lobes of upper lateral sinuses open, arrangement of lobes of petiole sinus slightly open, low proportion of anthocyanin colouration of the main veins on upper side, sparse prostrate hairs between main veins on lower side, absent or very sparse erect hairs on main veins on lower side, petiole is moderately shorter than middle vein
MATURE LEAF TEETH: medium length, small length to width ratio, mixture of both sides straight and both sides convex shaped
FLOWER: fully developed stamens and gynoecium
FRUIT CLUSTER: medium sized, lax, medium length peduncle of primary bunch
BERRY: medium sized, globose shape, moderately easy separation from pedicel, begins to ripen mid-season, complete formation of seeds
BERRY SKIN: yellow-green (without bloom), medium thickness
BERRY FLESH: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, soft or slightly firm, no particular flavour
Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Voltis' (INRA-Col-2011G) originated from a controlled cross conducted in June 2002 by the Institut national de la recherche pour l'agriculture, l'aliment et l'environnement (INRAE-ResDur program) in Siebeldingen, Germany between the female parent variety 'Villaris' (Gf 84-21-9) and the male parent 'INRA_3159-2-12'. In 2017, the variety 'Voltis' was selected based on its resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew as well as its ability to produce wine quality grapes.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Voltis' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20172246, purchased from the Groupe d'étude et de contrôle des variétés et des semences (GEVES) in Beaucouzé, France. The trials were conducted by GEVES at the Institut national de la recherche pour l'agriculture, l'aliment et l'environnement (INRAE) in Beaucouzé, France from 2016 to 2018.
