Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Veluwe' and 'Melanie'

Summary: The plants of ‘Viva' are of medium height and dense whereas the plants of ‘Enja' are medium to tall and medium to dense. The shoot on the sunny side of ‘Viva' is brown whereas that of ‘Enja' is medium green. The flower of ‘Viva' is medium to large whereas that of ‘Enja' is medium sized.

Description:

PLANT: narrow bushy growth habit, dense, medium height

SHOOT TIP: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration in winter and midsummer, new growth is medium green
SHOOT: brown on sunny side
FLOWERING SHOOT: medium length of current season's growth, light green, medium green tip at beginning of flowering

LEAF: dark green

FLOWERING: begins early to midseason
INFLORESCENCE: medium to dense flowers
FLOWER: no opening of bud, medium to large, main colour white (RHS 155C) at beginning of flowering, white (RHS NN155C–NN155D) at end of flowering

Origin & Breeding History: ‘Viva' originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary lines, the female parent designated K12-0939 and the male parent designated E13-302, in Wezep, Netherlands in early September 2014. In September 2015, ‘Viva' was selected from the resulting progeny based on plant habit, floriferousness, and plant longevity. Asexual reproduction of ‘Viva' was first conducted by softwood cuttings in September 2015 in Wezep, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘Viva' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20230006, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2023. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
