Origin & Breeding History: 'HJ-8' originated from a hand pollinated cross between 'Royal Orange' (female parent) and 'Rum Runner' (male parent), which took place at Seaforth, Ontario in November 2001. The parents were selected for leaf and flower colour, time to flowering and rootability.
Tests & Trials: The tests and trials for 'HJ-8' were conducted at Seaforth, Ontario in 2005. Vegetative cuttings of the candidate variety were stuck on November 3, 2004, rooted for six weeks, and transplanted into 6 inch pots on December 15, 2004. Plants were pinched at 6 weeks from transplant. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 4, 2005. All colour measurements were determined using the 2001 RHS Colour Chart.
