Summary: The plants of 'Evening Rose' are taller than those of 'Summer in Paradise'. The current year's branch of 'Evening Rose' is dark purplish to greenish whereas that of 'Summer in Paradise' is light purplish to greenish. The petal of 'Evening Rose' is smaller than that of 'Summer in Paradise'. The inner side of the petal of 'Evening Rose' is medium purple red to medium blue pink whereas it is medium purple red for that of 'Summer in Paradise'. The eye zone of the flower of 'Evening Rose' is dark red while that of 'Summer in Paradise' is dark purple red. The petal of 'Evening Rose' has a medium degree of undulation while that of 'Summer in Paradise' has an absent or very weak to weak degree of undulation.

PETAL: slightly elongated shape, inner side medium purple red (RHS 61C) to medium blue pink (RHS 61D), no secondary colour, absent or weak incisions of margin, medium degree of undulation of margin
EYE ZONE: small in relation to petal (excluding extensions), absent or very short extensions, dark red (RHS 45A)
STAMINAL COLUMN: medium length
Origin & Breeding History: 'Evening Rose' originated from a hybrid cross conducted on August 5, 2015 in Zeeland, Michigan, USA between the unreleased proprietary variety '12-231-1' as the female parent, and the male parent 'Perfect Storm'. 'Evening Rose' was selected in the spring of 2017 based on plant growth habit, well-branched compact stems, flower size, flower colour, petal strength, flowering period and disease resistance. Asexual reproduction of the variety was first conducted by stem cuttings in the summer of 2017 in Zeeland, Michigan, USA.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Evening Rose' was conducted as an outdoor container trial in September 2023 at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. The trial included 10 plants of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown in 23 cm pots and spaced 75 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
