Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: ‘DVPazurri' (Azurri Blue Satin)

Summary: The plants of ‘MINSYBV3S01' have a semi-upright growth habit while those of ‘DVPazurri' have an upright growth habit. The plants of ‘MINSYBV3S01' have a medium density of branching while those of ‘DVPazurri' have sparse branching. The petiole of ‘MINSYBV3S01' is shorter than that of ‘DVPazurri'. The leaf blade of ‘MINSYBV3S01' is narrower than that of ‘DVPazurri'. The leaf blade of ‘MINSYBV3S01' has an obtuse base while the leaf blade of ‘DVPazurri' has an acute base. The leaf blade of ‘MINSYBV3S01' has a medium to deep degree of lobing while that of ‘DVPazurri' has shallow lobing. The leaf blade margin of ‘MINSYBV3S01' has few incisions while that of ‘DVPazurri' has a medium number of incisions. The outermost petals on the flower of ‘MINSYBV3S01' have a strongly ascending attitude whereas those of ‘DVPazurri' have a horizontal to recurving attitude. The eye zone of ‘MINSYBV3S01' is dark purple red whereas it is dark purple for ‘DVPazurri'. The upper side of the petal of ‘MINSYBV3S01' is mainly dark blue violet with medium violet blue towards the centre and base of the petal while that of ‘DVPazurri' is light violet blue with no secondary colour.

PETAL: moderately elongated shape, inner side dark blue violet (RHS 93C), medium violet blue (RHS 94C) secondary colour towards the centre and the base of the petal, absent or weak incisions along margin, absent or very weak degree of undulation of margin
EYE ZONE: long extensions, dark purple red (RHS 59A)

Origin & Breeding History: ‘MINSYBV3S01' originated from an open pollinated cross that occurred in July 2007 in La Menitre, Maine et Loire, France between an unnamed proprietary seedling as the female parent, and an unknown male parent. ‘MINSYBV3S01' was selected in October 2010 based on plant growth habit, flower size and flower colour. Asexual reproduction of the variety was first conducted by softwood cuttings in February 2011 in La Menitre, Maine et Loire, France.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for ‘MINSYBV3S01' were conducted in an outdoor irrigated container trial during the spring and summer 2022 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 12 plants of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown in 6.4 cm liners and planted into 7.6 litre containers in the summer of 2021. The plants were overwintered in an un-heated polyhouse. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants on August 16, 2022. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
