Variety used for comparison: 'Sun Power'

Summary: 'Paradise Power' has smaller plants and smaller leaves than 'Sun Power'. The leaf of 'Paradise Power' is variegated while it is not in 'Sun Power'. 'Paradise Power' has a yellow leaf with a medium green margin while 'Sun Power' has a yellow leaf . The petiole of 'Paradise Power' is slightly shorter than 'Sun Power'.

Description:

'Paradise Power' is a vegetatively propagated perennial hosta with an arching growth habit. The simple type leaves with entire margin are arranged in a whorled to rosette fashion, are lanceolate in shape with acuminate apex and cuneate base. There is no glaucosity or pubescence on the upper or lower side of the leaf blade. The variegated leaf is light yellow with a small amount of medium green colouration along the margin. There is a petiole present.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Paradise Power' originated as a naturally occurring sport of the Hosta variety 'Sun Power' and was selected in 1994 in Ter Aar, The Netherlands. The selection criteria were attractive foliage characteristics, in particular a green margin on yellow leaves.

Tests & Trials: Ten plants of each were grown in a field approximately 0.50 to 0.65 metres apart during the summer of 2003 at Oxford Station, Ontario. Unless otherwise indicated measured characteristics were based on ten plant measurements.
