Variety used for comparison: 'Zounds'
Summary: The height of the foliage of 'Coast to Coast' is taller than the height of the foliage of 'Zounds'. The petiole of 'Coast to Coast' is longer than the petiole of 'Zounds'. The leaf blade of 'Coast to Coast' is larger than the leaf blade of 'Zounds'. The leaf blade of 'Coast to Coast' has an acute apex with medium undulation of the margin and absent or weak degree of blistering whereas the leaf blade of 'Zounds' has an obtuse apex with weak or absent undulation of the margin and strong blistering. In cross-section, the leaf blade of 'Coast to Coast' is moderately concave whereas the leaf blade of 'Zounds' is strongly concave. The inflorescence of 'Coast to Coast' is shorter than the inflorescence of 'Zounds'.

PLANT SHOOT: purple first leaf scales
PETIOLE: "U" shaped in cross-section, yellow green, no anthocyanin colouration
LEAF BLADE: broadest part positioned moderately towards base, medium to broad ovate shape, truncate base, acute apex, moderately concave in cross-section, many parallel veins, medium degree of bulging, absent or weak degree of blistering, medium undulation of margin, absent or weak twisting
COLOUR OF LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): young leaf is light green (RHS 144B/C), mature leaf is light green (N144A) to green brown (RHS 151B) fading to light yellow brown (RHS 160C/D), covers large surface area, distributed throughout leaf area, solid or nearly solid pattern
PEDUNCLE: light green (RHS 144C)
INFLORESCENCE: few flowers, bracts present
FLOWER: horizontal attitude, single type, shape of perianth is tubular in lateral view, outer side of inner lobe is white (RHS N155A) with faint light blue violet (RHS 85D) along mid-rib
Origin & Breeding History: 'Coast to Coast' resulted from a cross using the line crossing breeding method conducted in June 1998 at Valparaiso, Indiana, USA. The female parent was the variety 'Manhattan' and the male parent was the variety 'Golden Gate'. 'Coast to Coast' was selected in 2010 for its foliage colour, plant growth habit, plant size, and foliage texture. 'Coast to Coast' is primarily propagated asexually using plant divisions.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Coast to Coast' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2015 at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. There were 20 plants of both the candidate variety and the reference variety. Each plant was grown in a 16 cm diameter pot with 20 cm spacing between the pots. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
