Origin & Breeding History: 'Waterslide' originated from a cross conducted between the proprietary hybrid WGI-16, as the female parent, and the variety 'Neptune', as the male parent, in Zeeland, Michigan, USA, in August 2010. The resulting seeds, collected from individual female plants, were sown in the summer 2012, at Walters Gardens, Inc. in Zeeland, Michigan. Initial selections were made in summer 2014 based on flower colour and plant habit. Propagation of the variety was conducted by shoot tissue culture in summer 2014.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Waterslide' was conducted in a galvanized steel structure, covered with black mesh shade fabric, during the summer of 2019, at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Plants were individually potted in 22 cm diameter pots spaced 45 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety. All colour determinations were made using 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
