Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'Limelight'
Summary: The leaf blade of 'Kolmakilima' has a shorter tip, deeper incisions of the margin, and stronger blistering than the leaf blade of 'Limelight'. Within the inflorescence, 'Kolmakilima' may have leaves present whereas 'Limelight' does not have leaves present. The inflorescence of 'Kolmakilima' is longer than the inflorescence of 'Limelight'.
Description:
PLANT: non-climbing type, upright growth habit
STEM: no fasciation, brown (greyish), black lenticels
LEAF BLADE: no lobing, elliptic shape, short tip, shallow to medium depth of incisions of margin, no variegation, medium green on upper side, obtuse to rounded base, moderate degree of glossiness of upper side, medium degree of blistering
FLOWERING: begins mid-season
INFLORESCENCE: conical shape, leaves may be present, inconspicuous or slightly conspicuous fertile flowers
STERILE FLOWER: single type, medium degree of overlapping of sepals, incisions of margin absent on all sepals
SEPAL OF STERILE FLOWER (INNER SIDE): yellow green (RHS 4C to RHS 154C) when newly opened, light yellow (lighter than RHS 4D) and white (RHS 155B) when fully open, white (RHS NN155D) and grey (RHS 157C) with brown purple (RHS 184B-C) along margin when aged

Origin & Breeding History: 'Kolmakilima' was bred and developed by the breeder, Mr. Peter R. Kolster, at Kolster Holding B.V., in Boskoop, Netherlands. It originated from an open pollinated cross that occurred in July 2006, in Boskoop. 'Kolmakilima' was selected in August, 2012, for its compact plant growth habit, inflorescence size, and the persistence of green colour at the top of the inflorescence.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Kolmakilima' was conducted in an outdoor irrigated container trial in the spring and summer of 2016, at Bioflora Inc., St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 10 plants of the candidate variety and 8 plants of the reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings, transplanted into 13.2 litre containers on June 1, 2015. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants, of each variety, on July 30, 2016. The aged flower colour was recorded on August 15, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
