Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'HIMOO' and '271103 A'

Summary: The stem of ‘Hokomabebos' has absent or few lenticels while that of ‘271103 A' has a medium number. The leaf of ‘Hokomabebos' has strong glossiness while that of ‘HIMOO' is absent or weak. The inflorescence of ‘Hokomabebos' has a short to medium height and medium width while that of ‘HIMOO' is tall to very tall and broad. The sterile flower of ‘Hokomabebos' has weak overlapping of sepals while that of ‘HIMOO' is strong. The main colour of the inner side of the sepals of ‘Hokomabebos' is white while that of ‘271103 A' is medium blue pink.

PLANT: non-climbing type, semi-upright growth habit, very short to short, as tall as broad

STEM: no fasciation, green, absent or few lenticels, medium size blackish lenticels

PETIOLE: green
LEAF BLADE: medium length, narrow to medium width, no lobing, obovate shape, medium tip length, acute base, absent or very shallow depth margin incisions, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration throughout, no variegation, dark green, no secondary colour, strong glossiness of upper side, absent or very weak rugosity, flat in cross-section

INFLORESCENCE: globular shape, short to medium height, medium width, absent or weak conspicuousness of fertile flowers, medium density of sterile flowers
STERILE FLOWER: four and five sepals, large to very large calyx
SEPALS OF STERILE FLOWER: semi-erect attitude, rounded apex, absent or weak rugosity, flat in cross-section, weak degree of overlapping, absent or weak undulation, medium depth margin incisions present on some sepals, inner side mainly white (RHS N155B), red secondary colour, flush pattern of secondary colour on inner side

Origin & Breeding History: ‘Hokomabebos' originated from a controlled cross between the proprietary female parent '07-036-01' and the proprietary male parent '07-120-09' in Boskoop, Netherlands on May 3, 2011. In May 2013, ‘Hokomabebos' was selected based on its growth habit, leaf colour, flower characteristics and colour. Asexual reproduction of ‘Hokomabebos' was first conducted by softwood cuttings in July of 2013 in Boskoop, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Hokomabebos' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20213168, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by Groupe d'Étude et de Contrôle des Variétés et des Semences in Brion, France between 2023 to 2024. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
