Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Kiped' (Pedro-Rose)

Summary: 'Kiadime' produces a slightly larger plant than 'Kiped'. The colour of the leaf blade for 'Kiadime' is green with yellow orange markings along the midrib, while for 'Kiped' it is a dark green with no markings. 'Kiadime' has medium intensity of red colouration between the veins on the lower side of the leaf while 'Kiped' does not. 'Kiadime' has a variegated leaf while 'Kiped' does not. The petiole length of 'Kiadime' is longer than 'Kiped'. 'Kiadime' has a darker reddish-violet flower colour than 'Kiped'. The depth of incision of the lower flower petal is deep in 'Kiadime' while it is shallow in 'Kiped'. The degree of curvature in the flower spur is stronger in 'Kiadime' than in 'Kiped'.

Description:

'Kiadime' is a New Guinea Impatiens variety with leaves that are elliptic in shape. The upper side of the leaves have dark green ground colour with yellow red markings. The mid-rib on the upper surface of the leaf blade has absent to very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration and the veins on the lower surface have medium anthocyanin. The intensity of red colouration between the veins on the lower side of the leaf is medium. Intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the petiole is weak.

'Kiadime' produces single flowers which are reddish violet in colour with red overtones along the margin and mid-rib of the petals as secondary colour. The eye zone for 'Kiadime' is small and red in colour. The depth of incision of the lower flower petal is deep. Intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the pedicel and flower spur is weak.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Kiadime' is a product of a planned cross breeding program in Gensingen, Germany in March 1999. It was selected for its early flowering, good branching habit, and reddish variegated leaves. It is bing maintained in Gensingen, Germany.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Kiadime' were conducted in Ed Sobkowichs' Greenhouses Ltd., Grimsby, Ontario in the summer of 2002. The trial included 12 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties, all grown in 10 cm pots. Unless otherwise indicated, measured characteristics were based on 10 measurements.
