Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: ‘Kijos' (Pizzazz White)

Summary: ‘Kiquilla' is a New Guinea Impatiens variety which produces larger plants than ‘Kijos'. The colour of the leaf blade for ‘Kiquilla' is green with yellow markings along the midrib, while for ‘Kijos' it is a dark green with no markings. ‘Kiquilla' has longer petioles and pedicels than ‘Kijos'. The depth of incision of the lower petal is deeper in ‘Kiquilla' than in ‘Kijos'. The degree of curvature of the flower spur in ‘Kiquilla' is stronger than in ‘Kijos'.

Description:

‘Kiquilla' is a New Guinea Impatiens variety with leaves that are elliptic in shape. The upper side of the leaves have medium green ground colour with yellow markings. ‘Kiquilla' is absent of any anthocyanin colouration other than the upper third of the shoots where it is weak and very weak in the upper side of the petiole.

‘Kiquilla' produces single flowers which are white in colour The is no eye zone for ‘Kiquilla'.

Origin & Breeding History: ‘Kiquilla' is a product of a planned cross breeding program in Gensingen, Germany in March 1999. It was selected for its white flower colour and variegated leaves. It is maintained in Gensingen, Germany.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for ‘Kiquilla' were conducted in Ed Sobkowichs' Greenhouses Ltd., Grimsby, Ontario in the summer of 2002. The trial included 12 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties, all grown in 10 cm pots. Unless otherwise indicated, measured characteristics were based on 10 measurements.
