Varieties used for comparison: 'SAKIMP022' (SunPatiens Spreading Carmine Red) and 'Misato FG3' (SunPatiens Vigorous Magenta)
Summary: The plants of 'SAKIMP029' are smaller than those of both reference varieties. The petiole of 'SAKIMP029' is shorter than that of 'Misato FG3'. The upper side of the petiole of 'SAKIMP029' has medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of 'Misato FG3' has a very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'SAKIMP029' has a weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration while that of both reference varieties has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The lower side of the leaf blade of 'SAKIMP029' has red veins while that of 'Misato FG3' has green veins. The pedicel of 'SAKIMP029' is shorter than that of both reference varieties. The pedicel of 'SAKIMP029' has a strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration while the pedicel of 'Misato FG3' has an absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. When fully open, the inner side of the corolla of 'SAKIMP029' is purple while that of 'SAKIMP022' is dark purple red and that of 'Misato FG3' is purple red.

Origin & Breeding History: 'SAKIMP029' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeders, Chihiro Sato and Shinji Minemura, employees of Sakata Seed Corporation in Misato, Japan. The cross was made between the female parental line 'NE-5331' and the male parental line 'NH-312' in June 2008. The resulting F1 progeny was sown and plants were evaluated in a field trial conducted in Misato, Japan. A single plant was selected based on its flower colour, root system and vigorous plant growth. The selection was vegetatively propagated and evaluated in another field trial in Misato, Japan from May to August 2010. Vegetative cuttings of this selection were shipped to Salinas, California, United States for final evaluations after which it was named 'SAKIMP029'.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'SAKIMP029' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on May 11, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 6, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
