Origin & Breeding History: 'SAKIMP040' originated from a hybridization made by the breeders, Chihiro Sato and Shinji Minemura, employees of Sakata Seed Corporation in Misato, Japan. The hybridization was made between the female parental line 'NF-572A2' and the male parental line 'NH-209-4H-3H' in April 2011. The resulting F1 progeny was evaluated in a field trial conducted in Misato, Japan. A single plant was selected based on its flower colour, rooting characteristics and plant growth habit. The selection was vegetatively propagated and evaluated in another field trial in Misato, Japan from June to August 2013. Vegetative cuttings of this selection were shipped to Salinas, California, United States for final evaluation after which it was named 'SAKIMP040'.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'SAKIMP040' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2017/2921, purchased from Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2018. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
