Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'SunPatiens Compact Blush Pink' and 'IMGZ0021' (Spectra Magenta)
Summary: The plants of ‘IMGZ0020' are shorter than the plants of both the reference varieties. The leaf blade of ‘IMGZ0020' is longer than that of ‘SunPatiens Compact Blush Pink' and shorter than that of ‘IMGZ0021'. The leaf blade of ‘IMGZ0020' is narrower than that of ‘SunPatiens Compact Blush Pink' and wider than that of ‘IMGZ0021'. The flower of ‘IMGZ0020' is wider than that of both reference varieties. The colour of the lower side of the leaf blade between and on the veins of ‘IMGZ0020' is green whereas that of ‘SunPatiens Compact Blush Pink' is red. The upper side of the petal of ‘IMGZ0020' is medium purple whereas that of ‘SunPatiens Compact Blush Pink' is medium blue pink with overtones of light to medium blue pink and that of ‘IMGZ0021' is pinker and darker than medium purple. The eye zone of ‘IMGZ0020' is medium to large while that of the reference varieties is small.

LEAF: no marking, absent to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, green between veins on lower side, green veins on lower side
PEDICEL: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: single type, one colour, upper side mainly medium purple when fully opened (RHS N74B) with tones of a lighter medium purple (N74A) and mainly dark blue pink when aged (closer to N74C-D), deep incisions on lower petal
EYE ZONE: medium to large, medium purple (RHS N74A)
SPUR: medium degree of curvature
Origin & Breeding History: 'IMGZ0020' originated from a controlled cross conducted on March 15, 2017 in Gilroy, California, U.S.A. between the proprietary female parental line ‘W5516-2' and the proprietary male parental line 'W0128-11'. 'IMGZ0020' was selected on February 15, 2018 based on flower colour, branching habit, and flower size.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'IMGZ0020' were conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2025 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Trials included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 4, 2013. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 11, 2013. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
