Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'SunPatiens Rose Glow' and 'IMGZ0020' (Spectra Pink)
Summary: The plants of ‘IMGZ0021' are taller than those of ‘IMGZ0020'. The leaf blade of ‘IMGZ0021' is narrower than those of both reference varieties. The pedicel of ‘IMGZ0021' is longer than that of ‘SunPatiens Rose Glow'. The flower of ‘IMGZ0021' is wider than that of ‘SunPatiens Rose Glow' and narrower than that of ‘IMGZ0020'. The upper side of the petal of ‘IMGZ0021' is pinker and darker medium purple whereas that of ‘SunPatiens Rose Glow' is darker than medium purple red and that of ‘IMGZ0020' is medium purple.
Description:
SHOOT: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
LEAF: no marking on upper side, absent to weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper side, green between veins on lower side, green veins on lower side
PEDICEL: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FLOWER: single type, one colour, upper side pinker and darker than medium purple (RHS N74A), medium to deep incisions of the lower petal
EYE ZONE: small, medium purple red to medium blue pink (RHS 58C to 58D)
SPUR: weak to medium degree of curvature
Origin & Breeding History: 'IMGZ0021' originated from a controlled cross conducted on March 15, 2017 in Gilroy, California, U.S.A. between the proprietary female parental line ‘W5516-2' and the proprietary male parental line 'W0128-11'. 'IMGZ0021' was selected on February 15, 2018 based on flower colour, branching habit, and flower size.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'IMGZ0021' were conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2025 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Trials included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 4, 2013. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 11, 2013. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
