PLANT: erect to spreading attitude
BRANCHES (MATURE): brown green, weak intensity of brown anthocyanin colouration
BRANCHES (YOUNG): medium green, medium to strong intensity of red purple anthocyanin colouration, medium to dense lenticels
LATERAL BRANCHES: 40 to 45 degree angle with main branch
PETIOLE: light green, strong intensity of purple red anthocyanin colouration, flattened to round in shape
LEAF: medium brown green (RHS 138B) on upper side, medium green on lower side, elliptic in shape, weak degree of rugosity between the veins, shortly attenuate base, acuminate apex
INFLORESCENCE: axillary raceme type
PEDICEL: purple red
PETALS: elliptic, white (more cream than RHS 155D)
Origin & Breeding History: 'SMNIVDFC' originated from an open pollinated cross between an unnamed seedling of Itea virginica 'Morton', as the female parent, and an unknown male parent that occured in 2011, in Grand Haven, Michigan, USA. 'SMNIVDFC' was selected in 2014, based on foliage colour, plant density and flower fragrance.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'SMNIVDFC' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, reference number ITB2, purchased from The Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
