Summary: The fruit of 'ZES008 is elliptic whereas the fruit of 'ZES006' is oblong. The fruit of 'ZES008' has a weakly sloping shoulder shape at stalk end whereas 'ZES006' has a truncate shoulder shape at stalk end.

Description:

PLANT: female, absent self fruit setting, medium vigour, early vegetative bud burst and flowering, very early to early harvest maturity

YOUNG SHOOT: sparse pubescence, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on growing tip
STEM: medium thickness, red brown on sunny side, smooth bark, absent or sparse pubescence, medium sized lenticels, medium prominence of bud support, absent bud cover, strongly depressed leaf scar, lamellate pith

LEAF: medium to large
LEAF BLADE: ovate, medium length to width ratio, acuminate apex, basal lobes lightly apart, no variegation
LEAF BLADE UPPER SIDE: absent or very sparse pubescence, medium intensity of green
LEAF BLADE LOWER SIDE: yellow green
PETIOLE: weak anthocyanin colouration of upper side

INFLORESECENCE: solitary, very few flowers,
FLOWER: medium diameter, concave in profile
SEPAL: many, green main colour, medium density of hairs
PETAL: overlapping arrangement, main colour yellowish white on adaxial side, even distribution of main colour, green second colour on adaxial side

Origin & Breeding History: 'ZES008' originated from a controlled cross between 'ZES006' and 'CK51_09' conducted at the Te Puke Research Centre, New Zealand in 2005. In July 2011, seedlings (progeny plants) where selected based on sweetness and locule colours. 'ZES008' was selected in 2011 and assessed for uniformity and stability. Plants were analyzed and described during their second and third year of fruiting until 2019.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'ZES008' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 34525, purchased from the New Zealand Intellectual Property Office, Plant Variety Rights, Minister of Business, Innovation and Employment, New Zealand. The test and trials were conducted between 2017 and 2019 at Zespri trial block, Te Puke.
