Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'Balucred' (Lucky Red)
Summary: The plants of 'Balandusbi' are taller than the plants of 'Balucred'. The leaf blade of 'Balandusbi' is wider than that of 'Balucred'. When aged, the floret of 'Balandusbi' is mainly dark purple red with tones of red towards the centre whereas the floret of 'Balucred' is red.

FLORET: yellow orange (RHS 17A) when newly opened, orange red (RHS N25A) to orange (RHS N25B) when mature, dark purple red (RHS 53B) with tones of red (RHS 44B) near centre when aged
Origin & Breeding History: 'Balandusbi' originated from a cross between proprietary plant '3460' and 'Magic Hour' in July 2013, in a controlled environment in Guadalupe, California, USA. The initial selection was made in May 2014 based on flower colour, branching, and growth habit. 'Balandusbi' was first propagated by terminal stem cuttings in May 2014.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Balandusbi' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring and summer of 2020, at BioFlora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 1 litre containers in April 2020. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or 10 parts of plants of each variety on May 28, 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
