Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Bandolero Cherry Sunrise'

Summary: The leaf blade of ‘LANZ0045' is shorter than the leaf blade of ‘Bandolero Cherry Sunrise'. The peduncle of ‘LANZ0045' is longer than the peduncle of ‘Bandolero Cherry Sunrise'. When newly opened to mature, the inner side of the floret of ‘LANZ0045' is mainly medium yellow orange with dark orange tones whereas that of ‘Bandolero Cherry Sunrise' is mainly orange red with medium orange towards the centre.

INFLORESCENCE: located in both the terminal and axillary positions, domed apex shape in profile, contains flowers of more than two colours
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): dark yellow (RHS 14A) when newly opened, medium yellow orange (RHS N25D) with dark orange (RHS N25A) tones between newly opened and mature, dark red (RHS 42A) when fully opened, dark purple to medium purple (RHS 61A-B) when aged, yellow eye
COROLLA LOBES: free arrangement, obtuse apex, incurved to not curved along longitudinal axis, medium degree of undulation of margin

Origin & Breeding History: ‘LANZ0045' originated from an open pollinated cross between the female parent ‘Little Luck Hot Pink' and pollen from an unknown male parent in August 2016 in Gilroy, California, U.S.A. The resulting seed was sown in August 2017, from which a single unique seedling was selected in November 2017 based on its plant growth habit, length of flowering period, flower colour and foliage colour.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘LANZ0045' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2024 at BioFlora, Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each per variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 12, 2024. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 17, 2024. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student's t-test.
