Origin & Breeding History: 'Alexandra' was selected from a seedling population that was produced from an open pollination of Lavandula stoechas 'Avenue' during 1998 in South Africa. The final selection was made in 1999 in Odense, Denmark, based on natural compactness. Further testing and evaluations occurred in 2000 and 2001. The objective of the breeding program was to create new Lavandula cultivars with attractive floral and foliage characteristics.

Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Alexandra' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2005 at Variety Rights Management in Oxford Station, Ontario. The trial included 10 plants of each variety. The plants were grown in 15 cm pots spaced 30 cm apart. Measured characteristics were based on measurements taken from 10 plants or parts of plants. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
