Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Anouk'

Summary: The plants of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' are smaller than those of 'Anouk'. The foliage of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' is medium green while that of 'Anouk' is light green. Including the spike, the flowering stem of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' is shorter than that of 'Anouk'. Including the first whorl, the spike of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' is longer than that of 'Anouk'. The infertile bract of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' is longer and a slightly darker medium violet than that of 'Anouk'.

Description:

PLANT: upright to bushy growth habit, medium size, semi-erect attitude of outer flowering stems at full flowering, medium density at full flowering
FOLIAGE: medium intensity of green colour, weak intensity of grey tinge

LEAF: no incisions of margin

TIME OF FLOWERING: begins mid-season
FLOWERING STEM: very light intensity of green colour, medium rigidity of basal part, dense pubescence, no lateral branches above foliage
SPIKE: truncate conical or cylindrical shape, many flowers, medium number of infertile bracts
FERTILE BRACTS: red purple
INFERTILE BRACTS: oblong shape, medium violet (closest to RHS N80B), medium to strong undulation of margin
CALYX: greenish, dense pubescence
COROLLA: violet

Origin & Breeding History: 'Anouk Deluxe 108' originated from a controlled cross conducted in May 2013 in Nuis, the Netherlands between the variety 'Anouk' as the female parent, and pollen from a proprietary male parent. 'Anouk Deluxe 108' was selected in May 2014 in Nuis based on plant growth habit, branch strength, leaf shape and colour, and infertile bract colour. Vegetative cuttings of 'Anouk Deluxe 108' were first propogated in August 2014 in Boskoop, the Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Anouk Deluxe 108' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2023 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 9 plants of both the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 3.8 litre containers in spring 2023. Observations and measurements were taken from 9 plants, or 9 parts of plants on June 13, 2023. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
