Summary: The fruit of 'Rinoka' has yellow skin colour whereas the fruit of 'Meyer Lemon' has yellow orange skin colour. 'Rinoka' has fruit with medium thick peel whereas 'Lisbon Lemon' has fruit with thick peel. 'Rinoka' has fruit with medium degree of acidity and 'Lisbon Lemon' has fruit with high acidity. The fruit of 'Rinoka' has few seeds whereas the fruit of 'Meyer Lemon' has many seeds and the fruit of 'Lisbon Lemon' has a medium amount of seeds.

TREE: upright growth habit, strong vigour, sparse to medium shoot density
ONE YEAR OLD SHOOT: thick, long, medium internode length, many spines
PETIOLE: short, wide at base, short and narrow wing
YOUNG LEAF BLADE: green, no anthocyanin
LEAF BLADE: long, medium width, medium length to width ratio, spindle-shaped, pointed-obtuse apex, acute at base, absent or weak undulation of the margin
FLOWER: early flowering, raceme inflorescence, six petals
PETAL: medium length, narrow to medium wide, slightly purple
STAMEN: many filaments, no viable pollen
STYLE: straight
FRUIT: matures mid-season, very low diameter to height ratio, protruding apex, medium to heavy, short neck
FRUIT SKIN: yellow, smooth
OIL GLANDS: very few, medium size

Origin & Breeding History: 'Rinoka' originated from a controlled cross-pollination conducted in 1991, at the Institute of Fruit Tree Science - Citrus Research Station in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka, Japan, between the variety 'Lisbon', as the female parent, and the variety 'Hyuganatsu', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'Rinoka' was selected in 2001 for canker resistance.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Rinoka' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 28741, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office, Intellectual Property Division, Food Industry Affairs Bureau, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan. The documents related to test and trials were examined by the Plant Variety Protection Office in Japan and granted rights on March 20, 2015.
