Variety used for comparison: 'Multired 4'

Summary: The leaf blade of 'MULTIRED 134' has a stronger intensity of anthocyanin colouration than that of 'Multired 4'. The anthocyanin colouration of the leaf blade of 'MULTIRED 134' has a purplish hue while that of 'Multired 4' has a reddish hue. The degree of glossiness on the upper side of the leaf blade of 'MULTIRED 134' is strong whereas that of 'Multired 4' is medium to strong. The degree of undulation of the leaf blade margin of 'MULTIRED 134' is weak while it is very weak to weak for that of 'Multired 4'.

Description:

PLANT: oakleaf type, open type culture, small diameter, absent or weak degree of overlapping of upper part of leaves, medium number of leaves, absent or weak axillary sprouting, under long day conditions begins bolting very late in season, absent or very weak intensity of fasciation at flowering stage

LEAF: very thin, semi-erect attitude at harvest maturity, medium number of divisions, narrow lobes, large area covered by very strong intensity of purplish anthocyanin colouration, strong glossiness of upper side, weak blistering, very small to small blisters
LEAF BLADE: weak undulation of margin, venation is semi-flabellate
LEAF (APICAL PART): sparse density of shallow crenate margin incisions

SEED: white seed coat

Origin & Breeding History: 'MULTIRED 134' (breeders reference NUN 09134 LTL) originated from a cross conducted in 2011 between two proprietary breeding lines in Gravenzande, Netherlands. Resulting F1 lines were self pollinated with pedigree selections conducted for the next 5 generations. Lines were again self pollinated at the F6 and F7 generations with one of the F8 lines designated as 'MULTIRED 134'. Selection criteria was based on plant diameter, leaf colour and bolting resistance.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'MULTIRED 134' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number SLA4384, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands from 2020 to 2021.
