Summary: The leaf of 'BINEX' has a stronger intensity of anthocyanin colouration than that of 'Codex'. The leaf blade margin of 'BINEX' has dense incisions while that of 'Codex' has a medium density of incisions.
Description:
PLANT: multi-divided type, in glasshouse and open culture, small to medium diameter, absent or weak degree of overlapping of upper part of leaves, medium number of leaves, absent or weak axillary sprouting, early to mid-season harvest maturity, begins bolting very late under long day conditions, absent or very weak intensity of fasciation at flowering stage
LEAF: very thin, semi-erect attitude at harvest maturity, many divisions, large area of very strong intensity of purplish anthocyanin colouration, strong glossiness of upper side, absent or very weak blistering, flabellate venation
LEAF BLADE MARGIN: weak to medium degree of undulation; incisions are very deep, dense and tridentate; medium to deep secondary incisions

Origin & Breeding History: 'BINEX' (breeder code 79-59 RZ) originated from a cross conducted between two proprietary lines in November 2013 in Fijnaart, Netherlands. The criteria used for making selections were leaf colour, slow bolting and resistance to Bremia lactucae. The variety was stable in October 2016 after 6 generations and it later became known as 'BINEX'.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'BINEX' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number SLA4219, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2020.
