Variety Description

Description:

PLANT: spreading attitude

YOUNG STEM: light green, weak intensity of red purple anthocyanin colouration
MATURE STEM: light green, strong intensity of red purple anthocyanin colouration

PETIOLE: light green, very weak intensity of red purple anthocyanin colouration
YOUNG LEAF BLADE: upper side brown green (darker than RHS NN137A) with medium to strong intensity of purple red anthocyanin colouration, lower side light green with weak to medium purple red flush
LEAF BLADE: ovate, very weak to weak bulging between veins, acute apex, wedge-shaped base, weakly recurved along longitudinal axis
LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): mainly brown green (darker than RHS NN137A) at centre, yellow green (RHS 1D) secondary colour near margin, brown green (RHS 189A) tertiary colour near centre
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): light to medium green

Origin & Breeding History: 'RANT01' originated as a naturally occurring branch mutation of the parent variety 'Zeblid'. The new variety was discovered by the breeder, Ronny Antonissen, in Sprundel, Netherlands in August 2012. 'RANT01' was selected based on plant shape, leaf colour and leaf variegation. Asexual reproduction of 'RANT01' was first conducted by softwood stem cuttings in September 2012, in Sprundel, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'RANT01' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2019/0241, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Naktuinbouw, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2020. The colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
