Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Little Rocket'

Summary: The plants of 'Bottle Rocket' are shorter than the plants of 'Little Rocket'. The colour of the stem of 'Bottle Rocket' is medium green whereas the stem of 'Little Rocket' is dark purple red. The disc of 'Bottle Rocket' is larger in diameter than the disc of 'Little Rocket'. The colour of the anther of 'Bottle Rocket' is medium yellow whereas the anther of 'Little Rocket' is brown.

SHEATH: medium green lower side, entire margin, pubescent

PETIOLE: very dark purple red basal and distal part, pubescent
LEAF BLADE: cordate shape, medium degree of lobing, dark green on upper side, weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration at margin, weak rugosity, pubescent, dentate margin, purple red veins

PEDICEL: dark green, pubescent
BRACTS: medium green, strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, pubescent on lower side
BRACTEOLE: dark green, strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration
INVOLUCRE: dark green, no pubescence
RAY FLORET: five per flower, yellow (RHS 7A)
TUBULAR FLOWER: yellow orange (RHS 13A)
ANTHER: medium yellow
STYLE: medium yellow

Origin & Breeding History: 'Bottle Rocket' was discovered as a whole plant, naturally occurring mutation of the Ligularia variety 'Little Rocket'. It was selected during the summer of 2006 for its shorter plant growth habit and more compact form in comparison to 'Little Rocket'.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Bottle Rocket' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2011/3100, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by Naktuinbouw, in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands, in 2013. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
