Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Lanmontana'

Summary: The leaf blade of ‘MANZ0024' is broadest at the middle whereas that of ‘Lanmontana' is broadest towards the apex. The distal half of the calyx of ‘MANZ0024' is light green whereas that of ‘Lanmontana' is light green with red pointed lobes. The corolla lobe of ‘MANZ0024' has an acuminate to acute apex whereas that of ‘Lanmontana' has an acuminate apex.

LEAF BLADE: medium to long, medium width, medium length to width ratio, broadest part at middle, acuminate apex, acute base, dark green upper side, medium glossiness on upper side, absent or very weak bulging between veins, no pubescence on upper and lower sides, medium intensity of green colour on lower side, incurving in cross-section, absent or very weak undulation of margin
PETIOLE: short, medium green, absent or very weak anthocyanin colouration, no pubescence

FLOWER BUD: rhombic shape
PEDICEL: medium length, medium intensity of green colour, absent or weak anthocyanin colouration, no pubescence
CALYX: medium length, light green basal and distal half

COROLLA LOBE: strongly asymmetric, acuminate apex, red pink (RHS 53C) upper side, very weak recurving of margin, medium undulation of margin, convex distal part in longitudinal section

Origin & Breeding History: ‘MANZ0024' originated from a controlled cross between the female parent, a proprietary seedling designated ‘DIP-064', and the male parent, a proprietary seedling designated ‘DIP-022', conducted in Gilroy, California, USA in 2013. The resulting seed was sown in March of 2015. The new variety ‘MANZ0024' was selected in January of 2016 based on plant habit, flowering time, repeat flowering, flower colour and foliage colour.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘MANZ0024' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2023/0541, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2024. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
