Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'AAC A120'
Summary: The cotyledon of 'DH69485' is narrower than the cotyledon of 'AAC A120'. The fully developed leaf of 'DH69485' has a greater number of lobes than that of 'AAC A120'. The silique for 'DH69485' is broader than the silique of 'AAC A120'.
Description:
PLANT: open pollinated, allotetraploid, medium to tall height at flowering, flowers late in the season
LEAF: wide elliptic shape, medium green, medium to many lobes, rounded to sharp margin, shallow dentations of margin
FLOWER STALK: high degree of branching
PETALS: yellow
SILIQUE: broad, medium length, medium length beak, medium to long pedicel
SEED: medium number per silique, medium sized, yellow
AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS: good resistance to lodging, good resistance to shattering
Origin & Breeding History: 'DH69485' originated from a cross between a selection from the United States Department of Agriculture collection, PI 633080, designated US68-1K, and a line from the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada breeding program, designated 111079EM-7. The cross was conducted in April 2013 and each resulting F1 plant used for the development of a family of double haploid lines. In the spring of 2015, seed from the double haploid lines were grown in rows in Agrisoma`s Swift Current breeding nursery, where one line designated 'DH69485', was selected based on lodging and pod shatter resistance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'DH69485' were grown during the summers of 2018 and 2019 at a Mustard (B. carinata) breeding nursery in Outlook, Saskatchewan. Plots were arranged in a RCB design with 4 replicates per variety each year. Each 6.0 by 1.5 metre plot had a seeding density of 100 seeds per metre squared. Each plot consisted of 5 rows with 0.31 metre spacing between rows. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements per variety except cotyledon width in 2019, which was based on a minimum of 24 measurements. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on a Student`s t-test.
