The silique, between the pedicel and beak, of ‘B10 A-line' is shorter than those of the reference varieties. The silique beak, of ‘B10 A-line' is shorter than that of ‘B12 A-line'. The pedicel on the silique of ‘B10 A-line' is shorter than those of the reference varieties.

Description:

PLANT: inbred, diploid, flowers early

LEAF: wide elliptic shape, medium green, medium number of lobes, rounded to sharp type margin

FLOWER STALK: medium to strong branching

PETALS: pale yellow to yellow

SEED: ranging between small to medium and medium in size, predominantly brown

Origin & Breeding History: : 'B10 A-line' is a cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) variety developed from a cross between the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE, France) brown mustard Brassica juncea Ogura CMS line and ‘B10 B-line' in 2012. The resulting male sterile F1 plants were backcrossed 5 times to the recurrent parent, ‘B10 B-line', from 2012 to 2015. The BC5F1 plants having the Ogura male sterile cytoplasm and nuclear genome of ‘B10 B-line' were designated ‘B10 A-line'. Seed increase of ‘B10 A-line' started in 2016.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'B10 A-line' were conducted at the Ag-Quest Research Farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan during the 2023 and 2024 growing seasons. The plots were arranged in a RCB design with 4 replicates. Each plot consisted of 6 rows, 5 metres in length, with a row spacing of 20 centimetres. The planting density resulted in a minimum of 1800 plants per variety per year. Measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements per variety per year, except for silique characteristics, which were based on 60 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student`s t-test.
