Description:

'Inupyel' is a nemesia variety with dense plants that have a very erect growth habit. The medium green leaves are lanceolate in shape and have a dentate margin. There is a petiole present.

Flowering for 'Inupyel' begins very early. The calyx has absent to very sparse pubescence on the inner side. There are no spurs on the flowers. The colour of the central and lateral lobes on the upper lip of the corolla is light yellow with blue violet at the base. The central lobes have weak undulation of the margin and are not reflexed. The lateral lobes have no reflexing. The lower lip of the corolla is yellow fading to light yellow at the margins with strong to very strong undulation of the margins and no reflexing. The palate is medium to large and yellow orange in colour.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Inupyel' is the product of a planned breeding program conducted at InnovaPlant GmbH & Co. KG, Gensingen, Germany in 2001. The objective of the program was to create a new interspecific hybrid between annual and perennial Nemesia species to obtain the growth performance of perennial types and the powerful colour and flowering of annual types. 'Inupyel' was selected in the spring of 2002 based on its upright plant growth habit, very early and continuous flowering, sterility and flower colour.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Inupyel' were conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc., St. Thomas, Ontario during the spring of 2004. The trials included 15 plants of each variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 4.5 inch pots on March 17, 2004 (week 12). All colour characteristics were determined using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart and measured characteristics were based on ten measurements.
