Origin & Breeding History: 'HOOGI016' was bred and developed by the breeder, Pavel Schuch, of Kostelec Nad Cernymi, The Czech Republic. It originated from an open pollinated cross that occurred in 2008 between the variety 'Monlo', as the female parent, and an unknown male parent. The seed resulting from the cross was collected and sown in 2009. From the 350 resultant seedlings, 'HOOGI016' was selected in 2012 for its compact plant growth habit, and small, gray-purple-red coloured leaves. 'HOOGI016' was first propagated asexually by stem cuttings in 2012, in Ederveen, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'HOOGI016' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2014/1961, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom, in 2015. There were no flowers observed during the technical examination. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
