Summary: Sekiin47' differs from the reference varieties, 'Seikilrem', in ray floret colour on the upper and lower surfaces. The upper surface of the ray florets of 'Sekiin47' are darker yellow (RHS 12A to 14B) than those of 'Seikilrem' (RHS 13C with brighter tones 13A). The main colour of the lower surface of the ray florets of 'Sekiin47' is yellow whereas it is yellow brown in 'Seikilrem'.

Description:

'Sekiin47' is a very early flowering Osteospermum variety with an erect to semi-erect growth habit. The medium green leaves have no variegation with no lobing. The flowers of 'Sekiin47' have one or two complete rows of ray florets with incomplete ray floret whorls absent. The diameter of the inflorescence is medium to large. The ray florets are yellow and elliptic in shape. The main colour of the lower side of the ray florets is yellow. The disc florets are purple and grey green.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Sekiin47' arose as the result of a naturally occurring mutation of the variety, 'Seikilrem' discovered in May, 2001 in Denmark. The variety was selected for its flower colour.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Sekiin47' were conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc., St. Thomas, Ontario during the spring of 2004. The trials consisted of fifteen plants of each variety, planted in 11 cm pots. Observations and measured characteristics were taken from 10 plants. Colour determinations were made using the 2001 RHS Colour Chart.
