The female parent was a proprietary line designated O03-20-2 which had light purple flowers and the male parent was a proprietary line, designated O03-6-1 which had white flowers with a blue eye. The resultant seed was sown in a greenhouse in September 2006. In January 2007, a single plant from the progeny was selected based on flower colour, plant habit and production characteristics.

Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Tra Whit' were conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2010 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of fifteen plants of the candidate and reference varieties. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 11 cm pots on April 28, 2010. Observations and measurements were taken from ten plants or parts of plants on June 9, 2010. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
