Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'KLEOE10179' (3D Silver)

Summary: The leaf of 'KLEOE11185' is longer than the leaf of 'KLEOE10179'. The indentations of the leaf margin are of medium depth for 'KLEOE11185' while the indentations of the leaf margin of 'KLEOE10179' are shallow. The flower head of 'KLEOE11185' is larger in diameter and has a longer ray floret than the flower head of 'KLEOE10179'. The colour of the basal zone on the upper side of the ray floret is dark violet to purple for 'KLEOE11185' whereas the basal zone of 'KLEOE10179' is white. The secondary colour of the upper side of the ray floret of 'KLEOE11185' is purple to blue pink whereas the ray floret of 'KLEOE10179' has no secondary colour. The middle zone on the lower side of the ray floret is of the purple to brown purple colour group for 'KLEOE11185' while the colour group of the middle zone is orange to brown orange for 'KLEOE10179'. The colour of the outer side of the tubular disc floret is purple streaked with dark violet for 'KLEOE11185' while the outer side of the tubular disc floret of 'KLEOE10179' is light violet blue streaked with blue violet and has darker blue violet at the apex.

YOUNG FLOWER HEAD: upper side of ray floret is white (RHS NN155C) with purple (RHS 71C) streaks in apical zone, outer side of tubular disc floret is purple (more purple than RHS 71B)
FLOWER HEAD: no paracorolla, anemone type
RAY FLORET: rounded apex, inward rolling of longitudinal margins absent on all flowers, basal zone on upper side is dark violet to purple (RHS N79B-C), two colours on upper side, upper side is white (RHS NN155D) with purple to blue pink (more purple than RHS 71C-D) secondary colour, distribution of secondary colour on upper side is predominantly in apical zone with occasional streaks in middle zone and along margin, colour group of middle zone on lower side is purple to brown purple
TUBULAR DISC FLORET: outer side is purple (RHS 70A) with dark purple (RHS N79B) streaks

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEOE11185' originated from a hybrid cross conducted in April 2007 by the breeder, Sankalp Bhosale, in Nairobi, Kenya. The cross involved two unnamed proprietary seedlings as the female and male parents. Seedlings resulting from this cross were selected in April 2008 in Stuttgart, Germany, based on their flower colour and flower type. The selected seedlings were evaluated in greenhouse trials from January to May 2008 and in 2009, and were assessed for stability of the flower type characteristic. 'KLEOE11185' was selected for commercialization in August 2010.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial of 'KLEOE11185' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. It included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm diameter shallow pots on April 28, 2014. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on June 17, 2014. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
