Origin & Breeding History: 'Uta' originated from a controlled cross between the female parent variety 'Madame Verté' and the male parent variety 'Bosc' conducted by breeder Professor Dr. Manfred Fischer of Dresden, Germany in May 1968 in Naumburg/Saale, Germany. It was selected by the breeder in November 1973 for its tree growth habit and size, fruit maturity, quality, yield, size, colour, disease resistance and post-harvest qualities. From 1994 to 1998, it was tested at 9 sites in regional adaptability tests. 'Uta' was first propagated asexually by budding in a controlled environment in August 1974 in Naumburg/Saale, Germany.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Uta' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, grant number 5802, purchased from the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2005 and 2006.
