Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'MFR131', 'MFR171' and 'CDC S110-22'
Summary: The stipule of 'CDC S120-22' is wider than that of 'MFR171'. The density of flecking on the stipule of 'CDC S120-22' is medium to dense whereas it is dense to very dense for the reference varieties. The plants of 'CDC S120-22' flower earlier than those of 'CDC S110-22'. The one hundred seed weight of 'CDC S120-22' is greater than that of 'MFR131' and 'MFR171' and less than 'CDC S110-22'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC S120-22' (experimental designation 1245-3) originated from the F2 population of a cross conducted between the line 883-1 and an F1 resulting from the cross between the lines 757-3 and 757-1 conducted in 2010 at the University of Saskatchewan, Crop Development Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The variety was advanced based on seed yield and weight, time of flowering and maturity, vine length and lodging resistance as well as disease resistance. Breeder seed was established from 42 sub-lines at the F9 generation in 2017.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'CDC S120-22' were conducted in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan during the 2022 and 2023 growing seasons. The trials were arranged in a RCB design consisting of 2 replications per variety. Each plot was 3.35 square metres with rows 3.36 metres long spaced 0.3 metres apart. The measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety per year except for the 100 seed weight where 8 measurements were taken per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
