Description:

PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, medium height foliage, medium to broad
STEM: green, absent or very weak anthocyanin colouration

LEAF BLADE: short to medium length, narrow to medium width, medium to deep sinus, medium to strong undulation of margin, closed base, no variegation, medium green on upper side
LEAF ZONE: medium to strong conspicuousness, medium sized, positioned in middle

PEDUNCLE: medium to long, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of middle third
INFLORESCENCE: medium to tall, medium width, medium to many open flowers, largest flower is long and broad
PEDICEL: absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of upper third, no swelling, length of longest pedicel is short to medium
SEPAL: moderate reflexing, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration in middle of broadest sepal
FLOWER: double type, medium number of petals, flat cross-section in lateral view, no irregularly distributed stripes or blotches
UPPER PETAL: broad, spatulate, entire margin at apex, margin of upper side is dark red (RHS 45A), middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B), lower side is medium red (RHS 46C), very weak to weak conspicuousness of stripes only on upper side, no zone at base on upper side
LOWER PETAL: margin and middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B), lower side is medium red (RHS 46C), upper side has absent or very weak conspicuousness of markings, very small white zone at base on upper side
INNER PETAL: middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B)

Origin & Breeding History: 'PEQZ0028' originated from a controlled hybrid cross conducted by the breeder, Ronald, Snijder, an employee of Syngenta Seeds B.V., in Enkhuizen, the Netherlands. The cross was made in September 2010 between the female parent variety, a proprietary seedling designated '10664-1' and the male parent, a proprietary seedling designated 'k08-4242-1'. The resultant seed was sown in January, 2011. The new variety 'PEQZ0028' was selected as a single unique seedling in Enkhuizen, in May 2011, based on flower time, branching characteristics and leaf appearance.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'PEQZ0028' is based on the UPOV Report of Technical Examination, application number 2016/2344, purchased from Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany in 2018. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
