Variety used for comparison: 'Calliope Medium Hot Pink'

Summary: The upper side of the leaf blade of 'PEQZ0032' is light to medium green while the leaf blade of 'Calliope Medium Hot Pink' is medium green. The leaf blade margin of 'PEQZ0032' has a weak to medium degree of undulation while the leaf blade margin of 'Calliope Medium Hot Pink' has medium to strong undulation. The upper third of the pedicel of 'PEQZ0032' has a very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration while the upper third of the pedicel of 'Calliope Medium Hot Pink' has a strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The colour of the margin on the upper side of the lower petal is purple red for 'PEQZ0032' while it is lighter purple red for 'Calliope Medium Hot Pink'.

FLOWER: semi-double type, arrangement of upper petals in relation to lower petals is free to touching, average of 7-10 petals, cross-section in lateral view is concave, irregularly distributed stripes or blotches are absent
UPPER PETAL: spatulate, entire margin at apex, margin of upper side is purple red (darker than RHS N57A), middle of upper side is purple red (RHS 58C and N57A), lower side is dark pink red to red pink (RHS 52A-B) with purple red (RHS 58B) along margin, marking is stripes only, weak to medium conspicuousness of marking, small white zone at base
LOWER PETAL: margin of upper side is purple red (darker than RHS N57A), middle of upper side is purple red (closest to RHS N66A), lower side is purple red (RHS 58B), absent or very weak conspicuousness of marking
INNER PETAL: middle of upper side is purple red (RHS N66A)

Origin & Breeding History: 'PEQZ0032' was bred and developed by the breeder, Mitchell Hanes, as part of a controlled breeding program. It originated from a cross pollination between two proprietary seedlings designated '11015-4', as the female parent, and '11024-6', as the male parent. This cross was conducted in Gilroy, California, United States in the fall of 2011. The resultant seed was collected and sown in a greenhouse in Gilroy in June 2012. In September 2012, a single seedling was selected based on its plant branching, vigorous plant growth and large flower size. This selection was named 'PEQZ0032'.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'PEQZ0032' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2018 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. There were a total of 10 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm shallow pots on May 25, 2018. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on July 2, 2018. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
